This is my first DeviantArt submission: Blackvein Moutain
This work was created mostly in Vue though I used 3ds Max with the xStream plugin to sort the mesh how I liked it in places. Clouds were created with Vue's Atmosphere editor.
I elected to do no post processing on this piece at the given time. I intend to produce a print size render at higher quality for this piece however to do this requires much more render time due to higher resolutions and the introduction of Object Antialiasing (not present here).
The larger piece will come soon however my last (failed) attempt clocked at 34 hours so it will take some time.
Please enjoy this piece and any comments or critiques are very appreciated.

This is amazing! I would totally think it's a picture.
If I may, I would suggest that you make the fog in the background more of a gradient, because as it is it seems that the front rock wall is a very flat, separate layer to the rest of the scene. By adding a gradiated fog, you might avoid that one problem that betrays 3D work.
The front mountain is in fact a seperate element which does seem to be noticeable, the idea was an outcropping mountain from the chain but I see what you mean.
The fog is actually part of the Atmosphere system however I think I can achiveve the effect you describe in either a new fog or post processing.
Whenever I get a chance I'll try it out and see how it looks.
I see what you mean, the brown colour of the mountain is actually achieved with a fill light since it's otherwise a grey texture
I rendered the sky seperately so maybe I can correct it with a bit of postproduction to match the scene lighting a bit better.
I'll be re-rendering at a larger res whenever I can find the time but I don't know whether I'll post , may just edit it. Will see if the changes merit a new deviation

Thank you very much for the advice

However the atmosphere needs to be less blue and try just playing with the lighting.
If you want I can send some of my custom presets to ya (via dropbox)
